Juan Pablo Montoya

Juan Pablo Montoya won in St Petersburg to give Team Penske its eighth victory in the IndyCar season opener.

Montoya wins opening race

Bogotá’s own Juan Pablo Montoya emerged victorious from the first race of the 2016 Indycar season for Team Penske. The St Petersburg Grand Prix in Florida had an unusually low number of incidents, but Montoya took advantage of a restart on lap 64 to pass rookie Conor Daly for the lead. From there, he controlled the race to the finish to win for the second consecutive year. The victory was his 15th career win in the IndyCar series. The runner-up of last year’s championship, Montoya currently sits third in the standings after a disappointing ninth place in the season’s second race in Phoenix, Arizona.

Poor start for Hernández in MotoGP

Colombia’s Yonny Hernández has experienced a difficult start to the new MotoGP season. Racing for the Aspar Team, Hernandez crashed out the Grand Prix of Argentina after also retiring at the opening race in Qatar. The Aspar team have severely struggled with defective tyres at the opening two races. In the third Grand Prix in Texas, Hernández made the finish line for the first time this MotoGP season finishing in fourteenth place. The racer from Team Aspar now sits in 19th place in the MotoGP World Standing.
