Musicians On The Market

By bogotapost September 10, 2014

The Bogota Music Market (BOmm) kicks off for the third time on September 10, with more than 1,200 aspiring artists registered for the event on BOmm’s website

The annual summit, organised by the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, is a marketplace for national and international entrepreneurs and Colombian artists, vying to showcase their talents and secure contracts for festivals, concerts and cultural shows around the world.

In total this year’s event received 22 band and orchestra proposals, 189 from soloists and singers, 447 from composers and 85 in other categories.

In the last 25 years the Colombian music industry has seen a massive surge, evidenced by big names like Shakira, Carlos Vives and Juanes. This has been accompanied by an increase in the number of musical offerings from talented Colombians who come to BOmm looking for opportunities to publicise their projects and talent.

María Isabel Agudelo, Vice-President of Business Development at the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, said that “BOmm has become a doorway giving musicians exposure to the public and a wider market. They grow not only as artists but as cultural industries, with a direct and indirect benefit to other sectors associated with music.”

BOmm hopes to give producers, managers, creators, agents, brands, editors, specialists in cultural marketing and artists the ideal opportunity to exchange business experiences, expand connections and catch up on new music management alternatives.

A BOmm representative explained “it is a professional development platform, a networking space to make deals, alliances and business within the music industry.

“The central core of BOmm is to get close to the Colombian musical creators with commercial brands in order to make exchange agreements and mutually beneficial synergies,” they stated.
