Shakira To Close World Cup

The 37-year-old Barranquilla native songstress, who is in a relationship with Spanish footballer Gerard Pique, is set to headline for a third consecutive year at the World Cup closing ceremony which will take place before the final match in Rio.

Speaking at a press conference, Shakira said: “I’m thrilled…I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons, and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people, myself included.”

In 2010 the singer performed her famous World Cup theme ‘Waka Waka’ in South Africa, and in 2006 she performed a special version of ‘Hip’s Don’t Lie’ in Germany. This year she will perform her new World Cup anthem ’La La La’.

Other major artists performing at the closing ceremony include Wyclef Jean and Santana.
